Chennaiyin FC face a tough challenge at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Sunday as they take on Odisha FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2025-26, with the Marina Machans aiming for their first win of the season.

Last year, a brace from Farukh Choudhary powered Chennaiyin to a memorable victory at Odisha, and over their last five encounters, the Machans have recorded two wins, one loss, and two draws, including that historic Kalinga triumph, the first away win at the venue in 569 days.

Head coach Clifford Miranda emphasized the need for his side to be at their best, noting that despite Odisha’s winless start, the fixture will be demanding.

“I have very good memories from my time with the club and the highest respect for Odisha and their coach. They played positively against Inter Kashi, and on Sunday, it’s going to be a very difficult game. If my team doesn’t match their determination, grit, and intensity, we could be in trouble. Matching their ambition will be crucial,” Miranda said.

The match also gives Chennaiyin a chance to open their account in ISL 2026. Miranda stressed confidence in the squad’s progress despite a challenging start.

“Winning sets the right tempo, builds confidence, and prepares the team for upcoming challenges. Even with defeats, the players and I believe we are on the right path. It’s a process,” he added.

Forward Farukh Choudhary highlighted the tactical learning under Miranda and the positive team environment.

“I’m learning a lot about movement, decision-making, and when to take fewer touches. The dressing room atmosphere is excellent, and everyone is helping each other. We’ll stick to the plan and hopefully turn results in our favour,” he said.

Sunday’s clash will be Chennaiyin’s third consecutive away match at the start of the ISL season, followed by their fourth away fixture against rivals Kerala Blasters in the Southern Derby on March 7.
